Doesn't surprise me with what money (or the illusion thereof) can do :)

I think this will become a progressive problem until it is addressed. This is part of the price we pay for having wide-spread access to knowledge and technologies. Once again it is up to each of us to be discerning about what we read, its source, and its authenticity.

Matt Cutts would probably say that this was "normal" like he does when referring to Google's supplemental index. Tell me the supplemental index is not "Google Hell"? I am one of the few that thinks that Google does make mistakes.
It is hard enough to win at the SEO game with the way things are. Then throw in questionable SEO tactics like this one from your competition. How is anybody supposed to make a living?

Caused waves? I guess. The interesting thing is really that Matt publicly admitted it's 'possible.' Beyond that, nothing of a major revelation. There's been dirty play online for ages. Let's talk about botnets and PPC for a while if you want some really durrrty talk.

Excellent article. Somehow none of it really surprises me at all. The depths that people will stoop to are unfathomable.

I think we are already in the middle of the "bear ride". The latest filters have got to be effecting Google's bottom line. I know it is effecting mine. I also know that there are competitors of mine who would rather see me dead because my web pages happen to be higher in the search engines for particular keyword phrases. I would not put it past them to use negative SEO tactics to get me off the map.
But that's ok. There is plenty out there and you never know where my pages might pop up next. Not just another pretty face you know?

Just trickle down from the overall negative hateful Neocon methodology.
Listen to Ann Coulter and translate it into business dealings.

I am still new to internet marketing, but these kind of tactics wouldn't really surprise me especially in the highly competitive markets.
