"They should be heading back up to the high we saw several weeks ago and possibly drifting higher," Stanislaw said.
"There's no shortage of crude oil. And yet the market seems to be pricing in an imminent shortage," Evans said. "In my view the markets are relatively overvalued here, and the prices cannot be sustained."
"Traders, who are buying it, are at a risk because they are basically looking for a shortage where there doesn't seem to be one."

You can not blame Exxon for gas prices, they just make modest profit when selling it.
It is the Evil Exxon discovery, and Exxon shipment, and Exxon refinary that makes all the money.
And Exxon discovery just makes a normal profit. They declare all that oil worth 1,000,000,...
So as you see $9 billion/qter is not that much compare to our made up assets...
If you don;t trust us, just ask "honest" man Cheney....

I guess I'll be sitting this one out. I had to call in to tell the boss I had to see the doc and he is writing me up. I really think working while afflicted with an ill could sometime cause affliction to other workers. They wouldn't let me transfer to a store near by. They would rather waste the gas than swap workers. So much for working for a giant box store that claims it helps its employees. The highest I spent getting to work the last rise was around 90.00 a week. Oh! Dubya stumped his big toe and the emergency truck had to use 200.000 dollars worth of gas to take him 10 minutes from the white house to the hospital.

Countryhick- I really need you to get over the idea that Stoners would have any sort of gain from this.
If he was profiting from high gas prices, I'd be dating him and we'd be on his yacht sipping pina coladas instead of playing on netscape.
In short: Knock it off.

Gas prices should go through the roof. If we paid what Europeans pay, maybe we would get serious about getting better public transportation and energy efficient vehicles. Detroit automakers can and should do better. What incentive does GM have to produce better mileage cars? How about a consumer base that cannot afford gasoline?
Incidentally, I drive to work too, but have the summer off. I need lower gas prices too.

GM came up with the EV1 car and scraped it. This car was economic and less harmful to the earth. Less repair work. Example: In 1974 the cutlass supreme Oldsmobile, it had plastic transmission parts they knew would melt that would bring more repair work, they designed it to be next to the catalytic converter, which had ceramic parts that got stopped up and over heated which in turn melted the plastic transmission parts, which in turn some poor survivor who couldn't afford to by another car was forced to replace or rebuild the transmission over and over. GM has to make a money trap out of everything. Therefore we continue on with big oil companies bilking the public. One should not have to pay for guarantees that would make their product more reliable.

Obvious market manipulation once again, here reg.unleaded hasn't dropped below $2.89 a gal.& diesel at $2.79 a gal.Going bio on the tractor is not an option until there is a adequate supply of fuel that we can depend on.I've got the injectors on my tractor running so lean she is starting to lose weight. There goes any profits for my crops this year.

Paladin: Too bad you're not a huge, conglomerate/corporate owned farm. Your subsidies and tax cuts alone would guarantee you a tidy profit. Here in CA, (and I suspect other states) the small, family farmer is slowly being strangled out of existence. Supply and demand my ass. Market manipulation by mega-brokers just keeps sticking it to the family farmers. And when the little guy finally goes bankrupt.....right outside the bank is that subsidized giant ready to incorporate what used to be a healthy family enterprise. But, hey, that's good for us, because we can save a nickel on a box of cereal and ain't that a great thing? Kinda like the Wal Mart philosophy.....small stores are bad, they cut into our profits...we gotta drive 'em outta business so we can have it ALL! Minimum wage, no benefits to our workers, but lower prices for YOU! We'll stop importing from China when you damn Americans finally decide to work for 15 cents an hour!

Gas is cheaper here at $72 a barrel than it was when it was $62. And they wonder why people don't think it's a racket.

If you want to be seen as a prognosticator with a 100% accurate prediction rate you need only repeatedly predict that the price of gas will rise.

Oh I hope not, but I'm afraid you are right. Nonetheless, hubby and I are headed -- by car -- 6 hours away for a wedding this weekend. Silly us. Guess I cannot bitch too much when I'm part of the problem. We keep buying and allowing big oil to rape us. My family can afford it for now ... I feel really badly for folks who will be (or already are)really strapped by gas costs. And I feel guilty for contributing to the problem, but yet don't do much about it except for driving less around town, etc.
It's a dilemma

The goverment should give the company normal profit of 15-20% and the rest tax 100%. That way at least the goverment will have some money, but not the manupulators...

Your petrol prices are a joke. What are you complaining about?
In Europe and the UK governments tax fuel so that "Gas Guzzlers" are a tiny minority. 1 litre will soon cost 1GBP: that equates to 7.53USD per US Gallon. And you think you have problem. That is your future so get ready for it!

THE ONLY REASON THE PRICES KEEP GOING UP IS BECAUSE THESE SO-CALLED ANALYSTS KEEP SAYING THEY"RE GOING UP. THE COMPANIES SEE THESE PREDICTIONS AND THEY SAY, "COOL, THEY THINK THE PRICES ARE GOING UP SO LET'S DO IT." WHAT THE ANALYSTS SHOULD BE DOING IS PREDICTING THE PRICES GOING DOWN. THEN THE OIL COMPANIES WILL COMPLY.

It amazes me that every time someone comes out and says that gas prices will be going up...they do the same day. I got gas this morning at 2.71 in dayton ohio...this afternoon it is 2.95. Tomorrow it will drop 4 to 5 cents.
