Not long ago, the expansion of free trade worldwide seemed inevitable. Over the last few years, however, economic barriers have started to rise once more. The forecast for the future looks mixed: some integration will probably continue even as a new economic nationalism takes hold. Managing this new, muddled world will take deft handling, in Washin

Seems to me that all globalization has done is move many of our industries to other countries and increased our national debt. Hello, Mr. President and congress!!!!!!

Seems to me that over-zealous labor unions and ever-constricting pollution controls were the real culprits in that.

"Seems to me that over-zealous labor unions and ever-constricting pollution controls were the real culprits in that".

The closing of tax loop holes that allowed companies to not pay their fair share is what caused this.

Companies that now pay less to their workers, still pay for some import taxes, but that is far less then health benefits, living wages, production costs, property taxes, social security taxes, state and federal taxes and so on.

Why pay an american minimum wage to do a job, when you can get an outsider to do the work for 5 dollars a day.

You are also forgetting about all the technology that leaves this country with those jobs and companies

Unions are the backbone of protecting the american worker.

contracts, steady wages. steady employement, and prevention from taking advantage of the average worker is what Unions do. Why do you think large companies like Walmarts refuse to allow their employees to use them.

As an example, 18 months ago, a small township in Canada had a brand new Walmart open.

The Employees gathered together to unionize.

In retaliation, Walmart closed the store.

Whats the average cost of a 1bedroom apartment where you are..

          Here it's roughly $900 a month.

Minimum wage of $ 5.35 per hour x 40 = 214 per week, before Taxes.

After taxes you clear 165 to 170 dollars per week.

          170 x 4 = $ 680

So after you get done working your 40 hour work week, like where are you supposed to live ?

20 years ago, when minimum wage was $ 3 per hour, the Union I joined ensured that I made at least $ 7.60 per hour.

Better than 90% of the time, Unions who fight for you, can only get you a COLA pay increase. ( cola ) = Cost Of Living allowance. Normally that's about 3 % per year.
