I believe that Bill Gate's mother was on the board of IBM and put the deal together. Bill's father was a lawyer and helped make certain that Bill owned all rights to the MS-DOS and IBM only had usage of MS-DOS.

Smart boy Bill. I also know that IBM decided against investing in the software market thinking it couldn't be expanded into what it is today. Bill made big money off IBM's errors. Wish I could have been there.
