Why does every bill have to be tied to something else? Why cant they vote on 1 bill at a time. This is so stupid, no wonder nothing gets done in washington. Im ******ed. Having a bill for raising mininum wage tied to a tax cut for estate tax what a crock!!!!!!!!!

You need to keep poor people so the rich people can stay rich, if poor people get a better wage and able to feed the family better. The rich will get less money and they are afraid to be the same level as poor people. Remember their no middle classed people.

It is interesting that the bill that was tied to this actualy affected EVERY American in one way or another.

I'm sorry that the DEM's have decided that ALL Americans have to live the way they, the DEM's, want, especially those on minimum wage, 6.6 Million strong and growing!

Maybe in this the media will stop their "smoke and mirrors" and let the DEM's know that in this they are WRONG!

By the way, the majority of those affected are the farmers and small bussiness where those farms and businesses have to be sold because of the inheritance tax.

I guess the DEM Millionares that can by-pass this tax with their living trusts, and other method's don't care about the rest of us Americans citizens!

Oh yes, the REP millionares can do the same, so this disproves the DEM's listed reason for voting against this Min wage bill increase.

Come on media, tell it like it really is!

                  rushran:

I agree with you. Each bill should be separate so that there are NO underlining concerns. I agree that it would make getting bills approved/disapproved would be based on the merits of the individual item on the bill, not the extra that was added.

I believe that these extras are frequently knows as "pork". A way for a congress person to get a bill for their individual state or corporate concern based that may, or likely would not, pass as a separate item.

Unfortunitely, this extra was also meant for the poor who can not afford to by-pass the estate tax. The RICH already do by-pass this tax with their "living trusts" and other methods that they have put into place, YEARS AGO!

So, why are the DEM's against the poor. Why not let them get more min wage & them & lower middle class to keep their farms and small businesses instead of having to sell them to pay this estate tax?

Yes, Congress let's pass a bill that will make each item a separate bill on its merrit!

Perhaps Congress will go back and present two separate bills...one to raise the minimum wage and one to cut the inheritance taxes. Then debate could be restricted to the merits of each bill. It would be interesting to see how the votes go for each bill. I lean towards thinking that neither bill would pass because of Republican opposition to the one and Democratic opposition to the other. The end result would be what we got here anyway.

I find it interesting that they can vote and give themselves a raise, but when the working class needs someone to look out for them, they vote against giving the working class a raise. If only there could be an easy answer!

You are all ignorantly arguing about Class warfare. This isn't about rich and poor, this is about you keeping the money you earn. There is no reason that the minimum wage should be a federal law. It is outside the scope of the Federal Government. In our free market system, the industry determines the value of the jobs. If you don't like what they are paying you, you have the option of getting another job. That's the way our system works.

And as far as the estate tax, people work hard all their lives. They earn money and perhaps are able to accumulate wealth. The government already taxes them on what they earn, why should they get a piece of your money when you choose to leave it to your loved ones? It's double taxation. If you're too blinded by your class warfare to see that, then you are lost.

Rushran, on a side note, you are correct that this tradition of adding riders to completely unrelated to the bills they are attached to is dishonest and deceptive. It should not be allowed. We the people should have a clear reporting of what our elected representatives vote for and against without having to wonder if it was because someone added ridiculous riders to it that caused them to vote it down.

Hey $5.15 per hour hour sounds like plenty of money for anyone to sell their life away. At that rate the poor only have to WORK: 1/2 hour to pay for a jar of peanut butter, 20 minutes for a loaf of bread to put it on, 15 minutes to buy a bus token to go to the store to get it, and many hours to buy shoes and appael to put on, to meet decency standards. And a Jerk like Mel Gibson earns 15 million dollars to to medoicre work on some crappy useless movie.

I agree with those of you who would have bills voted on as individual issues. Individual bills would better serve an efficient way of passing the GOOD and letting the poorly thought out bills fall away until better worded or better directed. MINIMUM WAGE: I feel strongly that the minimum wage should be raised IMMEDIATELY but to $10 per hour rather than the $7.25 by 2010. I do not think $10 per hour is an extreme. I also think, probably controversially, that paying $10.00 as a minimum wage would go a long way to cause US citizens to work the jobs that illegal entrants to the US are working.

Untrue - The tax provision in this bill affects only 8700 of the richest people in America. Republican talking points have been lying to you about small family farmers & businesses losing their properties.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't see that money is fluid. What will happen if the poor get a raise? They will spend that money on goods and services, generating more profit for the rich. What happens if the rich keep it? It goes into an offshore account, tax free and no one but the rich person benefits.

Hey, I care about either one of the patries. I consider myself a centrist. I like some issues that Republicans discuss and I like some issues that the Democrats discuss. But some people have short term memory.

A week ago the Republicans rejected the minimum wage raise when the Democrats were supportive of it. Now the Republicans are supportive of the raise only if the they agree to a plan to cut inheritance taxes paid by the rich.

You know they could perform a truly patriotic act if both parties put their personal differences aside and start making decisions that are good for the country and not for their respective parties.

Yeah I agree that the Kennedy's are one of the richest families in this country. But, Kerry is doing pretty good himself, thanks to his rich wife by the way inherited from her late husband who was Republican.

Maybe one of these days they will take care of us common folk.
